St. Hilda’s East is a multi-purpose community organisation based in Tower Hamlets. Established over a century ago as a ‘settlement’ by Cheltenham Ladies College, it has evolved into a thriving modern day community centre. Our Charitable Objects centre on relief of need and advancement of education.
We provide a wide range of services addressing needs of a diverse local population, from pre-school children’s activities to a thriving Older People’s Project. The organisation has received national recognition for its work with older people, including Community Care and Queen Mother’s Care of Older People awards.
LinkAge Plus is based at Sonali Gardens day centre, St Hilda’s other site in Tower Hamlets. Sonali Gardens LA+ service provides support and services for older people in Wapping and Stepney working with some of the most excluded and isolated older people within the local community.
Sonali Gardens provides a wide range of free support, activities and services including: outreach service, specialist pension and legal advice services, health related services including tai chi, workshops and courses on specific health conditions (ie diabetes, eye health, cancer), cooking and nutrition including social activities.
As over 40% of service user are Bengali, two outreach workers are Bengali-speaking.
Sonali Gardens centre also provides a Day Care service and a Domiciliary Care service. An Extra Care facility is also housed in the building complex provided by Sanctuary Housing Association.
